DWTS Week 8

I can’t believe next week is semi-finals! This season has flow in some ways and in other ways it’s been really really slow.

Standard/Smooth round
Chad and Cheryl
– I really do not get what people are seeing… His dancing is not graceful or elegant
– good frame and connection with Cheryl
– his footwork still looks very awkward to me
– leaning a bit forward in his promenades
– Seems a little slow for a tango and this song…
Len: Didn’t show polish, had attack and good movement
Bruno: went for the emotional involvement. Had to be slicker and more precise.
Carrie Ann: loved the attack, sees potential but posture in this dance was funky.
Score: 7, 7, 7 = 21

Nicey and Louis
– They should have gone home last week 😦
– posture looks good
– no real rise and fall
– very happy and carefree
– Showed some very nice basic movements
Bruno: Very pretty at the beginning, good movement. Sometimes need to watch the arms
Carrie Ann: Too much push and pull. Body contact was good but it was kind of strange. Need work on the transitions
Len: Pleasantly surprised. Had floaty quality, posture was good, good movement but arms were kind of messed up
Score: 7, 8, 8 = 23

Erin and Maks
– she really needs to trust Maks
– wow love that pose
– Need more connection together
– not a big fan of that lift
– These pauses are nice
– very sloppy helicopter turn
– A little sloppy in places and it was not in any shape or form as clean and crisp as Evan’s last week
Carrie Ann: Thought it was hot. Showcased your legs. Committed to the character. It was fantastic
Len: Loved it!
Bruno: thought the extensions were amazing and “were on fire”
Score: 9, 10, 9 = 28

Evan and Anna
– awww he’s blushing!
– I love Anna’s dress!
– Very very good rise and fall!
– frame is amazing
– very beautiful ending
– That was amazing
Len: Not sure if he liked it or not. Would like to watch it again. Didn’t like the beginning. Posture was great. lovely movement around the floor and good footwork
Bruno: Romeo and Juliet reawakened. Beautiful topline. Lines are exquisite
Carrie Ann: lines are impeccable. Memorized by the lines. Have to loose the movement
Score: 9, 9, 9 = 27

Nicole and Derek
– oh way to ruin one of my favorite songs 😦
– not enough stretch in that countra check
– Hate the gimmicks
– Not enough in frame
– Good turns there
– Really not enough foxtrot content
Bruno: pure dancing joy. Had creativity
Carrie Ann: Nice to see you smile. Defining imagine. Challenging yourself
Len: Irresistible. Lack of body contact.
Score: 10, 9, 10 = 29

Latin Round
Chad and Cheryl
– Kept with the theme
– but not seeing a whole lot of Jive
– Kicks and flicks really lose and lacked precision
– Did not like that dance at all
Len: high energy, fun, entertaining. Glad there weren’t a lot of kicks which was good. Liked it
Bruno: Had a good time, not a lot of Jive material
Carrie Ann: had good character. Energy was a little wild but best dance yet
Score: 8, 8, 8 = 24
Total: 45

Nicey and Louis
– LOL at the song
– Lines are still lose and not as sharp and hard as they could be
– No really “character”
– That pose was beautiful!
– That was interesting…
Bruno: Had lack of control. No Spanish lines and looked a little out of it
Carrie Ann: Gives her credit that this routine was ambitious. Beginner was a little off for Power
Len: got through the routine, and wasn’t good enough. Dance didn’t suit her personality
Score: 7, 6, 7 = 20
Total: ?

Erin and Maks
– looked a bit awkward up there on stage
– beautiful toe pointing there
– hip movement for her looks stunted
– That was a great modified illusion turn!
Carrie Ann: Agree with being up there with Evan and Nicole. Needs to own her. She does move beautiful!
Len: Liked the part on the stage. Mix of step was great. Whole routine was jerky needs smoothing
Bruno: Liked the extension and liked it. Thinks they should be in the finals
Score: 8, 8, 9 = 25
Total: 53

Evan and Anna
– wow that was awesome hip movement!
– very fitting to the theme…
– good hip movement in those walks
– That was a good dance.
Len: The theme really worked for him. As a cha cha cha it lacked fluidity and normal cha cha stuff
Bruno: couldn’t be more futuristic. Very creative and inventive
Carrie Ann: Much more committed to the character. Perfectly lucky for Future Cha Cha Cha. Stiff worked well for him
Score: 9, 8, 9 = 26
Total: 53

Nicole and Derek
– Very crisp
– They lucked out in the song too
– That wasn’t a 1950s song at all…
– It was a very good Paso but so not a 50s dance
Bruno: Full of color…
Carrie Ann: Doesn’t know what to say. Derek’s choreography was brilliant
Len: Really disappointing because there was nothing to criticize
The problem with this is that there was absolutely nothing 1950s about this which is really really not fair
Score: 10, 10, 10 = 30
Total: 59
